A total of 5 million leva in the form of grants will be provided for projects of small and medium enterprises under the ninth session of the National Innovation Fund (NIF), which was officially opened with an information campaign on Thursday. Documents will be submitted from 25 June to 25 July, and the aim is to support the research and development endeavours of Bulgarian enterprises.
The Fund finances innovation in products, technologies and services, and the grants are only available for their development but not for marketing. There are two main types of activities for which subsidies are envisaged - industrial research and experimental development. The areas in which projects can be developed are those of the Smart Specialization Strategy of Bulgaria, i.e. Mechatronics and Clean Technologies, Information and Communication Technologies, Healthy Living Industry and Biotechnology, and Creative and Recreational Industries. One project may fall into more than one thematic area. The maximum period of implementation of each project shall be not more than 18 months.
